Guidance on sexual impropriety and sexual misconduct
The Faculty Office has produced guidance on sexual misconduct and sexual impropriety.
This guidance is intended for notaries, including those who serve as supervisors, employers or inspectors. It also relevant to Faculty Office staff.
As the Faculty Office regulates and authorises notaries on an individual basis, this policy applies to notaries individually and not to the firms they work for or are contracted by, regardless of the nature of the employment or contractual arrangement.
The purpose of this guidance is to help notaries:
– Understand the Faculty Office’s approach to allegations of sexual misconduct, including what constitutes unacceptable behaviour and when it may become a regulatory issue
– Recognises the distinction between private and professional conduct, where these boundaries may overlap, and why this distinction matters.
